Digitization of Incremental Settlements uses drones and photogrammetry to improve living standards and construction safety in incremental settlements. By automating the collection and analysis of urban data, decision-makers can use the insights gained to enhance conditions for incremental settlements worldwide.
Digitization of Incremental Settlements focuses on improving the living standards and construction safety of incremental settlements, which are prevalent in many cities around the world. Using photogrammetry techniques with images taken from drones, the project team mapped the built environment of two case studies, allowing them to extract accurate measurements in a designed automated workflow that enables this study to be done worldwide. Through structural analysis, the team was able to identify potential structural risks and detect physical problems, while also determining the economic input needed to expand the dwellings. By proposing interventions to improve the living standards of incremental dwellers, the project aimed to provide valuable insights and solutions for decision-makers working in incremental settlements. Overall, the use of innovative technologies such as drones and photogrammetry allowed the project team to gather valuable data and information that could support informed decision-making and interventions aimed at improving the living conditions and safety of people living in informal settlements worldwide.
